Development of the Food Safety and Phytosanitary Services in Montenegro

The overall objective of this contract is/was to improve the food safety and phytosanitary standards for the benefit of consumers and to facilitate the international and European trade of agricultural and processed agricultural products in Montenegro.

• Specific Purpose of Food Safety Component of the project: Strengthening the legislative, institutional and administrative capacity related to food and feed safety and contributing to upgrading of establishments processing food of animal origin in Montenegro.
• Specific Purpose of Phytosanitary Component of the project: Establishment of systems for plant passport, regulation of plant protection products and plant variety protection together with increasing technical capacity in laboratory methods.

Technical assistance and training workshops were provided on behalf of the Veterinary Directorate (VD) and the Phytosanitary Directorate (PD) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) of Montenegro.
